  The Deep End is a concept album with a story and a message, despite the dominance of the instrumentals. Clay and Cameron seek to spread a message of self-acceptance and inner exploration through sonic journeys which take the listener to all parts of their mind.
  
  The album was originally conceptualized by Clay Rodgers and Cameron Nichoson in the summer of 2019. The two had been playing together for awhile at that point, and had been trying to create a solid work of recorded material. They started with "Benjamin's Manifesto," an ambitious song that, although a valuable learning experience, did not have to production to support it. Later that year, armed with new equipment, they aimed to create a simple five track EP. However, after hours of composition sessions over the summer, they realized that they could create something much bigger. By the end of that summer, they had an outline for a full concept album, and plans to come back in the winter for final recording sessions. After breaking in the fall (Clay goes to school back East) they buckled in for a marathon of recording sessions. In the span of two weeks, they recorded for nearly eight hours a day, covering almost all the material on the album.
